schedule at kennedy center. "the war horse" will show there. we're taking a closer look now at what the super tuesday ruts really mean. joining us is edward williams, a political analyst. let's talk a little bit about the results last night. romney looks like he's moving closer to getting the nod for the republicans. what sort of promises is he going to have to make to bring some of the other candidates on board as we maybe potentially look out into the future and see some of these folks drop out. >> he's going to have to consider who's best in terms of a vp candidate and who's going to give him an edge over barack obama. this is going to be a difficult challenge. but barack obama answered it with bringing on hillary clinton as secretary of state, bringing on joe biden as vp. those were both formidable candidates running against him. these are people who challenged
6:13 am
him that helped sharpen him in the primary debates. so i think mitt romney's challenge is to do the same, to basically create a game changer the same way mccain did with sarah palin. i'm looking at latinos. i'm looking at susannah martinez, the governor of new mexico, marco rubio, the senator from florida. these are people who could really add value. but the interesting thing here is that santorum gives romney an edge in terms of conservatives, true conservatives. newt gingrich is not an option for romney. i think romney knows that but newt gingrich might actually be good as a potential cabinet member. so i think he's going to have to start making those backroom deals, the sort of cronyism that a lot of people in washington say they don't really like but that's necessary in order to close the deal. >> let's talk a little bit about rick santorum. we can't count him out yet. he still has a lot of momentum. people lot him as a candidate,
6:14 am
maybe more so than mitt romney supporters. people are passionate about rick santorum. is he out of this or can he still pull this out? >> i'm not sure if he has a path to the nomination in terms of delegates because one of the interesting things now is that mitt romney is leading in the delegate count. but santorum may have had an argument had he done more than 50% in ohio. the interesting thing there is that he may have done so had there been no newt gingrich. but the fact that he has not won in ohio means that this is a difficult task for him in terms of getting the numbers -- the number of delegates that he needs in order to win the nomination. >> i want to ask you real quick before we go. a lot of people have talked about bob mcdonnell possibly coming up in this new administration if mitt romney wins. cue see him serving -- could you see him serving some sort of role? >> i'm not sure i can. mitt romney's campaign is focusing on every little
6:15 am
detail. this is a highly professional team here. they have calculated every step of the way. i have to say i think a lot of political analysts are going to look at last night and credit mitt romney's team. i think in terms of strategy, in terms of bob mcdonnell, in terms of who is going to fit best where, they're on it and i think we're going to see that in the coming weeks. >> this has been fascinating analysis. thanks so much for coming in and sharing your expertise with us. >> tank you for having me. >> absolutely -- thank you for having me. >> absolutely. howard was driving towards downtown washington yet and daffodils are coming up everywhere. >> a lot of things are coming up everywhere. spring has sprung with one of the warnest winters we've -- warmest winters we've dealt w. only two and a half inches of snow at reagan. it's done. i don't think we'll see snow again till next winter. that's just how it is this year, one of those winters that two years ago we got hammered. this year we got a nice, easy go of it. next year will be next year.
